The Power of Forgiveness

The Power of Forgiveness1407969_lion

Jesus told him this story: “A man loaned money to two people—500 pieces of silver to one and 50 pieces to the other. But neither of them could repay him, so he kindly forgave them both, canceling their debts. Who do you suppose loved him more after that?”Simon answered, “I suppose the one for whom he canceled the larger debt.” “That’s right,”Jesus said.

Forgiveness is about love. Let me explain.

The Old Testament law of forgiveness says:

Mat 6:14 “For IF you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

Remember Jesus lived UNDER the LAW. All of Matt, Mark, Luke and John was BEFORE Jesus died on the cross meaning that in order to get to heaven you had to obey the law.

The law said forgives so THAN God can forgive you.

In this next scripture notice that God says it is a blessing to have your sins forgiven.

Rom 4:7“Blessed [are those] whose lawless deeds are forgiven, And whose sins are covered;

The scripture tells us what happens when WE don’t forgive.

2 Co 2:7 , you [ought] rather to forgive and comfort [him], lest perhaps such a one be

swallowed up with too much sorrow.

The devil uses our sins to make us feel unworthy.

There are 4 ways that cause us to become angry, bitter and unforgiving.

1. You THINKING God is mad at you for something you did or didn’t do.

2. You being angry at God for Him letting you down

3. YOU feeling guilty, full of shame, and condemned because of what you did or didn’t do,

4.. You becoming bitter and resentful toward someone who hurt you, or used.

The result of all this anger and bitterness  which only brings about sickness and disease of the body and mind.

Example-Mat 9:6 “But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”–then He said to the paralytic, “Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.”

Not forgiving someone who hurt you because they don’t deserve to be forgiven KEEPS you in BONDAGE to THEM!

The empowerment to forgive comes from being forgiven- It is hard to forgive yourself and others without knowing YOU are forgiven. God paid for all your lifetime of sins wrongs and mistakes. He did this because HE LOVES YOU!

How did He do this.Eph 1:7 He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of His Son and forgave our sins.

Act 10:43 (Peter said this) everyone who believes in him will have their sins forgiven through his name.”

The first step in getting free of unforgiveness is to receive forgiveness. How do you receive this forgiveness?

Rom 10:13 ANYONE who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved (forgiven)

The result of receiving the free gift of forgiveness is healing.

Jam 5:15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

Col 2:13 And you, being dead in your sin… He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all sins

The result of Receiving Jesus gift of forgiveness is now WE have power to forgive

·Why can we forgive Eph 4:32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

·Col 3:13 and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also

So it comes down to God’s love forgave you when you didn’t deserver it or maybe didn’teven believe it or want His forgiveness, but when you receive His love by accepting His forgiveness you are empowered to forgive others.

If you were to die tonight, do you know where you would go? The Bible says all have sinned and the result of sin is death. But WHOEVER calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. I am a “whoever,” and so are you. Call on the name of Jesus right now. “Father God, I accept the free gift of Jesus and make Him Lord of my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and show me how much you love me. In Jesus’ name.”
